Cate - 15 Months

Our sweet little miss turned 15 months a week and a half ago now...I'm just running a little behind here. We took her for a check up and she weighed 24 pounds 6 ounces (73%) and is 32.25 inches long (94%). She is healthy and growing!
She spends a lot of time like this with her lovey in her mouth checking out the world. Much of her eating and sleeping habits are the same from one year, but she has grown into the next size of clothes (18-24 month).

So let's talk about her little personality and things she loves!
- Cate loves books!  She loves being read to or taking them off the shelves or baskets and flipping through the pages. Then she leaves them scattered all over the place!  We pick up books MANY times a day.  Whenever it gets quiet, we find her surrounded by a pile of books.
- She loves reorganizing cabinets and toys too.
- She says a few words: mama, dada, Cole, car, up, bye bye, duck, ball, no no, and a lot of first letter sounds for words too.
- The cutest thing is that she nods her head for yes or no when you ask her questions. You can have a full conversation!
- Cate loves to dance!  Any time we turn on music or a toy plays music she is shaking her hips back and forth!  Sometimes we even get hands in the air!
- She is her brothers biggest fan. They love playing together and can be so cute and funny when Cole is talking to her and she's just nodding her head at him.  They are two peas!
- Cate is a little lover. She enjoys sitting on laps or being held and can chill a little more than Cole ever wanted to. She gives kisses now!  Or sometimes licks!
- She is a little bit of a picky eater, but we hope it gets better as she gets older.
She is just growing up before our eyes and will seem even bigger once she starts talking more!  Our Cate Girl is just so sweet and loving...I hope she never grows out of that!

Oklahoma Aquarium Run

Tony and I planned on doing a half marathon together back on April 11th, but his mom had to go out of town last minute and I ended up running solo.

Tony ran this race a few years ago and didn't love to course because it had some decent hills. They have since changed the course and it was really pretty flat, out and back for the most part on the south River Parks trails. They also have a 5k and 10k which made the beginning miles kind of crowded, but it was only for the first few miles.

I feel like I actually did some good training work starting about 6 weeks before the race and worked up to 12 miles for a long run and did 10 a few times. I also hadn't done a half since 2009!  We were on the marathon kick for awhile and having kids left me doing fewer races.

I forgot how much I like the distance of a half though. It's long enough but you can run at a quick pace. Plus it doesn't take as long to train for it!  I hope to do more soon. Needless to say, I ran my best time and placed 1st in my age group, 3rd female, and 11th overall with a time of 1:35:19 (7:17 pace). I was surprised with my time and how good I felt having not done a race in awhile.
It started to rain right after the race, so I didn't get any pics with my cheering section!  Tony got all of them out to see me at mile 9 or so and then they were at the finish. Cole was yelling and gave me a high five when I ran by. Doesn't get much better than that!

Easter Weekend

We had a fun, low key Easter weekend as a family. We went to our church on Saturday afternoon, like we've done the past few years. We had to wake the kids up this time to make sure we were able to get ready and be there on time. That made our picture taking session a little interesting, but we did get a few cute pictures of Cole and Cate.
And a full view of Cate's cute dress. :)
They were less than excited to take pictures with Tony and I though!
After church, we went out to dinner at Charleston's. We actually had a couple from our community group come with us too. They don't have any kids yet, so Cole and Cate were quite the entertainment for them. We also had them over for dessert and to watch some basketball and hang out.

On Sunday morning, the kids got to find their Easter baskets. They got swimsuits, a little toy, and Peeps. Cole was actually really disappointed with his Easter basket. He kept asking when he was going to get his "real basket" aka a plastic wrapped bag of junk toys and candy from the store. Ugh...we had a talk about that one. He did get over it after awhile though.
After naps we did a little Easter egg hunt outside. The weather wasn't great and the grass was wet, so we had to stick to parts of the yard that we could get to from the sidewalks. They still had a lot of fun doing it though and enjoyed the little extra candy in the eggs. Cole was even sweet with helping Cate and not taking all the eggs before she got to them.

Neighborhood Egg Hunt

Last weekend, the neighborhood park dried out just enough to still have the egg hunt!

We had little miss in the 0-3 age group this year!
And Cole moved up to the 4-7 age group.

We took a few cute pics before they got started.
It was a beautiful day!

The little ones started first!
Cate got about four eggs that were in her area. She was one of the smallest and not the quickest. It didn't take her long to figure out what to do though. She loved taking the eggs out and putting them back in her basket the rest of the day. She even snuck a little of her candy on our way home.

Tony went with Cole for his group and Cole definitely knew what he was doing this year. He just ran and got as many eggs as he could.
Last year he would stop and open each egg. So we made sure he waited this time since he would be with the bigger kids.
He got quite a few eggs and pretty much ate all his candy on the way home!  We like to walk and it's about a mile. He had plenty of time to eat his candy and we kind of lost count because we were chatting and walking. Cole didn't mind!  Plus he shared some with us too!

Coloring Easter Eggs

Cole colored eggs for the first time last year and had been asking to do them again as soon as he saw the boxes at the stores!  I got everything ready for him while he was at school on Monday so he had something fun to do in the afternoon.

This year he helped get them in and out of the glasses.

He waited patiently and let me know when they turned the perfect color. Here he is with all the colored eggs.

He really wanted to just stop there. I should have just gotten the dye packages, but I got one with Avengers stickers. So with a group effort we got some stickers on there.
And we were all done!

Cole - 4 Years

Cole had his four year check up last week, so I've waited to give a little update on him. He has grown so much since last year, over 3 inches and 5 pounds. He's now 42 2/3 inches tall (92%) and 42 pounds 6 ounces (90%) in weight. He also had to get three booster shots, but did so good! He didn't even cry or say anything at all when he got them. I was really surprised because he'd been crying and worried about getting them all week. So hopefully he remembers that they weren't that bad for the next time!
He was stylin' in his tiger gown at his appointment!
Cole's favorite things...there are so many and they change very often! But he is into Legos (the Duplo and the smaller ones now), superheros of all kinds (favorites are Batman and Spiderman), cars and airplanes still, riding his bike, and playing games. He has tons of toys now and asks for new ones all the time! He has gotten much better at entertaining himself and will go off and play by himself a lot more often. He likes having Cate to play with too, although he can be a little rough with her or will get mad if she starts taking apart something that he's been working on. He loves making her laugh and chasing her around the house though. He also enjoys making her lovey blanket "report for duty". They are quite the pair, and he's a really good big brother. He has also been going to soccer once a week since September and loves it. He has improved a lot and has better control over the ball. He loves the running parts!
Cole has been going to school on Mondays since September. He went through a really hard time for about four months where he cried and didn't want me to leave him. It was hard for both of us, but we stuck with it and he's been so much better since the beginning of the year. He wouldn't just get upset about being left at school, but anytime I would leave for church, Pilates, to get run, etc. We never figured out why he started doing that or why he stopped. Just one of those things. He does a great job at school though and his teachers tell me that he's so smart. I'm sure he talks everyone's ear off! :)
Cole is still taking an afternoon nap from 1-3ish in the afternoon, and he goes to bed around 8 PM and will get up around 7 AM. We went through a period of time where he had a hard time going to sleep and would get up a bunch of times and also a time when he was getting up early in the morning, 6:30 or earlier. But he's seemed to even out now and is getting better at staying in bed.

Some of his favorite foods are mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, strawberries, Cheerios, applesauces, all kinds of snacks, and desserts of course. He will eat vegetables. His favorites are corn, peas, and broccoli. He doesn't get very excited about trying new things, but hopefully that will change as he gets a little older.
Four has brought us into a whole new stage with him. The past year had so many different phases that he would go through, but he's starting to change into a more independent little guy. He is very opinionated, which can get interesting, and knows what he wants. He has no problem telling us how it is! But it's also so fun to hear what he has to say. He can tell us about his day at school, or make up funny stories and words. He remembers everything! It's pretty amazing. Recently he's gotten so much better with his sense of time, days of the week, and months. He is also starting to do a lot of things for himself, but we are working on getting him to do more! Sometimes he thinks it's just easier to have Mom and Dad do things for him. :) We feel like we are in the real parenting stage, not just taking care of his basic needs, but really teaching him and helping him grown in other ways.

For the times that he's stubborn and easily upset when he doesn't get his way, he's equally sweet and helpful. He gives the best hugs and kisses and will say "you're the best mom (or dad)" when he's happy about something. He helps with the trash, putting away his clothes, picking up, clearing the table, etc. He's become a better listener and will actually do what we ask (most of the time). We really have so much fun with him and are so lucky to be his Mom & Dad! Happy 4 Cole Man!!
