Cate - 12 Months

We have officially entered a new stage at the 1 year mark! Of course, Cate's still our little baby, but in a month she's grown up so much right before our eyes!
The most exciting thing is that she is walking! She took her first few steps at about 11 1/2 months, but it took a week or so before she would put together more than three or four steps before falling down. Now she's walking across the room and transitioning away from crawling, although she still does crawl especially when she wants to get somewhere fast. All of her new walking toys from Christmas have been great and help her legs get stronger and move faster. She loves holding hands and walking too.
Another major change is we've started weaning from nursing and are almost done. I've dropped one feeding a week and have replaced it with a sippy cup of milk. She never really got the hang of the sippy cup until now. I was surprised that only a few days of using it for her snack, she was drinking almost the entire thing of milk. I was worried about it for nothing. She can't get enough of the sippy cup now and uses it for water and milk. She tested as slightly anemic at her check up, so we have to make sure she isn't drinking too much milk. I guess that can affect how they absorb iron.
She is also eating all table foods, pretty much everything we eat, she eats. Her favorites are blueberries, grapes, peanut butter, yogurt, crackers of any kind, chicken, and so much more! She wants to eat all the time!
At her check up she weighed 23 pounds (79%) and was 31.25 inches long (97%). She wears 12-18 month clothes and size 4 diapers. She got her first pair of real shoes for her birthday and measured at a size 5, although we bought them a little bigger since she's just started walking more. She's still taking two naps for about an hour and a half each during the day and sleeps 12 hours at night. We had to lower her mattress to the lowest setting because she got out and over the side of her crib one day! Yikes! We are so thankful and lucky that she didn't get hurt! We might have a little daredevil on our hands.
She is definitely developing favorites...her lovey is the all time favorite thing. We don't go anywhere without it. She sleeps with it, rides in the car with it, and walks around the house with it. We actually have 4 because they have to get washed all the time from being chewed on. She loves toys that make noise and pretty much anything that brother is playing with, she wants in on. (Much to Cole's frustration sometimes because she doesn't play with things the way he likes to.) She will take a car or airplane in her hand, move it back and forth, and make a vroom noise! It's so cute! She loves Cole and just wants to be apart of what he's doing. I also say she's a professional reorganizer right now. She loves taking everything out of a toy basket or drawer and just leaves everything laying around! It makes such a mess! She also has a few favorite books that she will pick out of the basket or shelf and bring over to me, sit in my lap, and wait to be read to.
She surprises me with how much she understands verbally even though she only says "mama", "dada", and "uh oh". She will put toys where I ask her to, will come to a certain room, she's figured out how to stack blocks, and match up shapes on her picnic toy plates. I have a feeling once she starts talking, there's no stopping her! Just with grunts, cries, and whines, she lets us know what she wants or doesn't!
We are getting to such a fun age with her! It's entertaining just to sit and watch her play and walk around. It's easier to take her out to dinner since she eats normal food, and I can tell she's so much more interested in what's going on when we go places. Of course, the new independence comes with challenges and tantrums least we know it's just a phase after going through it once already! We just can't get enough of her little smiles, laughs, and all the new things she's learning and figuring out how to do! Happy Birthday Cate!!!
