Bounce Time

A few weeks ago we went to Bounce U for preschool bounce time. Cole had been asking to go, so why not?!
Cole had the most fun being a daredevil and going down the big slide and jumping off the platform.
Little sister wasn't sure what to think about the bounce houses. She just wanted me to hold her and jump lightly.
But she did like throwing the bouncy balls and pushing around the few little bikes. Good thing Cole can take care of himself most of the time because Cate was all over the place. Plus it was pretty crowded too.
They both had a great time though!  It's a nice option when it's chilly outside.

Cate - 12 Months

We have officially entered a new stage at the 1 year mark! Of course, Cate's still our little baby, but in a month she's grown up so much right before our eyes!
The most exciting thing is that she is walking! She took her first few steps at about 11 1/2 months, but it took a week or so before she would put together more than three or four steps before falling down. Now she's walking across the room and transitioning away from crawling, although she still does crawl especially when she wants to get somewhere fast. All of her new walking toys from Christmas have been great and help her legs get stronger and move faster. She loves holding hands and walking too.
Another major change is we've started weaning from nursing and are almost done. I've dropped one feeding a week and have replaced it with a sippy cup of milk. She never really got the hang of the sippy cup until now. I was surprised that only a few days of using it for her snack, she was drinking almost the entire thing of milk. I was worried about it for nothing. She can't get enough of the sippy cup now and uses it for water and milk. She tested as slightly anemic at her check up, so we have to make sure she isn't drinking too much milk. I guess that can affect how they absorb iron.
She is also eating all table foods, pretty much everything we eat, she eats. Her favorites are blueberries, grapes, peanut butter, yogurt, crackers of any kind, chicken, and so much more! She wants to eat all the time!
At her check up she weighed 23 pounds (79%) and was 31.25 inches long (97%). She wears 12-18 month clothes and size 4 diapers. She got her first pair of real shoes for her birthday and measured at a size 5, although we bought them a little bigger since she's just started walking more. She's still taking two naps for about an hour and a half each during the day and sleeps 12 hours at night. We had to lower her mattress to the lowest setting because she got out and over the side of her crib one day! Yikes! We are so thankful and lucky that she didn't get hurt! We might have a little daredevil on our hands.
She is definitely developing favorites...her lovey is the all time favorite thing. We don't go anywhere without it. She sleeps with it, rides in the car with it, and walks around the house with it. We actually have 4 because they have to get washed all the time from being chewed on. She loves toys that make noise and pretty much anything that brother is playing with, she wants in on. (Much to Cole's frustration sometimes because she doesn't play with things the way he likes to.) She will take a car or airplane in her hand, move it back and forth, and make a vroom noise! It's so cute! She loves Cole and just wants to be apart of what he's doing. I also say she's a professional reorganizer right now. She loves taking everything out of a toy basket or drawer and just leaves everything laying around! It makes such a mess! She also has a few favorite books that she will pick out of the basket or shelf and bring over to me, sit in my lap, and wait to be read to.
She surprises me with how much she understands verbally even though she only says "mama", "dada", and "uh oh". She will put toys where I ask her to, will come to a certain room, she's figured out how to stack blocks, and match up shapes on her picnic toy plates. I have a feeling once she starts talking, there's no stopping her! Just with grunts, cries, and whines, she lets us know what she wants or doesn't!
We are getting to such a fun age with her! It's entertaining just to sit and watch her play and walk around. It's easier to take her out to dinner since she eats normal food, and I can tell she's so much more interested in what's going on when we go places. Of course, the new independence comes with challenges and tantrums eventually...at least we know it's just a phase after going through it once already! We just can't get enough of her little smiles, laughs, and all the new things she's learning and figuring out how to do! Happy Birthday Cate!!!

Cate's 1st Birthday Party

We celebrated Cate's birthday, just one day early on the 17th with a little party with family and friends at our house.

We had some snack foods and cake.
I hung up all of her monthly pictures for everyone to see.

Cate enjoyed some snacks while everyone was eating. She is loving blueberries these days!
The older kids ate and played for awhile, and then we opened Cate's presents. Cole pretty much opened them all of her, but all the other kids really wanted to help too. :)
All Cate wanted was the bows off of the presents.
Uma and Opa got her this pink and purple shopping cart car that she loved pushing around. She also likes to pick things up and sets them up to "ride" on the seat.
Then it was cake time! We sang 'Happy Birthday' to her...
And then we all helped her blow out her candle.
Cole had been talking about her smash cake for awhile and couldn't wait to see what she was going to do. He was worried that she was going to smash the cake on him!
She had no problems eating her cake! She loved it and went for it right away. I think she mostly had the frosting, but the mess is part of the fun!

Cole posed with her big birthday cake that we shared with all of our guests. Everyone had cake, and Cate was still going on her smash cake! We had to just take it away from her after awhile!

The Birthday Girl with the Grandparents!

We had such a great time celebrating our sweet little girl, and we're so thankful that our family and friends could make it too!

The Best of the Rest

This is my last post about our trip to Texas! We did a few fun little outings while we were there, but first, we took a few pictures on our drive down when we were fresh and excited! The drive home is never quite as much fun!

We brought Elf Sally with us so she could keep an eye on Cole and Cate until Santa came.
We planned to stop in Canton, which is about half way, for lunch at a Subway. Well, now we know why we've never stopped there before...it's a gas station Subway. Ugh! So we had to find somewhere for lunch and fast because we were getting a cranky baby. So we drove back to the little downtown square and ate at a place called Tumbleweed's Café. It was tiny, but a cute little place. The food was also pretty good.
The two best friends were holding hands! Too cute!
I had to get a picture of Nina and Pop Pop entertaining the little ones.
Janet, David, and I took Cole and Cate down to the neighborhood park one day. They both love the swings, and Cole even climbed to the top of the rock wall.
We did a little shopping at Market Street after naps one day. I could not get either one of them to look at me for a picture! All Cole wanted to do was run circles around the tree.

Cole and Cate also loved walking along the flower beds in the center of Market Street.
The cute Charbonnets!
Nina and Pop Pop pic!
Tuesday morning, we went to visit my friend Alyssa and her family in Katy. They just had a new little baby two weeks before we were there. They also have a three year old, Grant, who Cole loves to play with! They kept each other busy the entire time we were there...playing kitchen, with cars, music toys, etc.
Alyssa and I with our 2nd babies! We have a picture just like this with Cole and Grant. They are pretty much the same difference in age too.
We just went ahead and made Tuesday a busy day, and went to The Woodlands Children's Museum! It was the only other day that week that it would be open, and Cole really wanted to go back. We visited last summer, and he had a blast! It was interesting to see how he was interested in different things this time around. Cate was just a few months old, so she had a great time discovering all the areas with toys for her.

They both loved the train track.
Cole could have cared less about the rice tables last time, but he loved it this time. Cate loved it even more! She was squealing and bouncing and pushing the rice all over the place!

They have an area just for little ones where Cate could pull up on the ballet bar and climb around on the mini steps and slide.
She thought the light board with the colored pegs was the coolest thing too. She pulled the pegs out and handed them to me or tried to put them back into their spots.
The king and queen!
Cole really wanted to dress up like a bumble bee and do a little performance. Then he took a bow!
Cole and Nina in the Christmas photo booth!
We also went out to dinner a few times while we were there, but ended up eating in a lot too which was nice with the little ones. We really just wanted to spend time with my family and were happy that we didn't feel like we were rushing from one place to the next trying to do or see everything.
