Cate - 7 Months

Little Miss Cate turned 7 months almost two weeks ago now. We took her pictures on the day, but then headed out of town to visit Nina and Pop Pop. Cate got to take her first flight to Houston with Mommy and Cole. She was very bouncy, but did great!
Cate has made some big improvements with her sleeping and eating over the last month. After we came back from our Grand Rapids trip, she started sleeping all the way through the night! She will sometimes wake up around 5 AM, but will cry for a few minutes and go back to sleep. She doesn't even do that very often though. She is taking two naps a day. One around 9 AM and one around 1 PM. It's nice that she and Cole take an afternoon nap at the same time. She will sleep for an hour and a half to two hours each time. She will sometimes take a short third nap in the late afternoon or will fall asleep if we go out to run errands around that time. She still sleeps in the sleep sack too and hasn't been rolling over on her tummy as much. She's usually on her back all night now.
We ended up putting the bumper pads back on her bed because she was using the slats to move herself all around and then getting her legs and arms stuck in the slats. Having the bumper pads on there calms her down and she barely moves at night now.
Baby food is going much better now too. We took 3 or 4 days off from even trying to give her anything, and slowly started up again. Now, Cate started two meals just this last week. She's finally opening her mouth and acting interested in actually eating. She hasn't eaten more than 2 ounces of anything, but that's ok. Her favorites are squash, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, and pears. I can count on her eating 2 ounces of those. Everything else is hit or miss. She will eat a good amount of oatmeal cereal too. We're doing one fruit or veggie "meal" and one cereal.
Cate is wearing 6-12 month or 9 month clothes. She's in a size 3 diaper. Her hair has started to fill in, and we can get little pigtails on her. She doesn't have any teeth yet.
Some of her favorite things right now are sitting up to play with her toys or Cole's. She puts everything in her mouth. She has started leaning forward on her arms and can get her legs behind her, but will then fall to her tummy. She does this A LOT! Then she cries. She loves when we help her stand. She can stand and lean against the couch by herself, but she can't pull herself up into that position yet. She's gotten a lot stronger over the past month and is always on the move or wanting us to help her move around.
That brings some challenges too...we've definitely had some fussy periods with Cate over the past month. She had a rough time being off her schedule in Grand Rapids, and she's had some days at home when she cries a lot. It often happens in the evening when she's tired and so are the rest of us. She likes having me carry her around and likes to be a part of whatever I'm doing. She will often cry until I pick her up and just carry her around. It makes it tough to get things done some days, and also hard to feel like I'm giving Cole enough attention too. We are just trying to be patient and celebrate the days (or even hours or minutes sometimes!) when she's happier and not fussing as much.
With this time comes fun things too...we love seeing her explore what's going on around her. She interacts with all of us and will laugh, smile, and "talk". She's sitting up well enough to take a bath with Cole now, and she splashes around and cracks us up. She throws and bangs toys around. She even "flies" airplanes with us.
I would sum this up as a month of highs and lows! Really fun and exciting times as she's growing and becoming her own person, and the fussiness and crying to tell us that she doesn't like things too. But we love her all the same and wouldn't trade it for anything! She's just so darn cute!

Big Brother can't miss out on the photo shoot. I don't know why he has on his shark sweatshirt. He likes to pick out his own clothes these days.

Here was Cole at 7 months old. They both have those cute cheeks!
