Cole's 3 Year Update

We finally made it to the doctor for Cole's 3 year check up last week. I think with Spring Break being the week of his birthday, it's harder to get an appointment. He checked in at 37.5 pounds (93%) and 39.6 inches (91%). He's still tall and thin even though his weight is in the upper percentages.
His appointment was awesome! Tony and I were almost crying he was cracking us up so much! Cole is a talker...he literally never stops talking and just goes from one thing to the next. So, he was the one answering all the doctors questions about what he could do and showed off his jumping, balancing, and toe touching. He even did some counting and joke telling. It was pure entertainment!
It's hard to think back over this year as to how much he has changed, but it's really been that he's just gotten better and more frequent with all of his skills. Some new things as of late have been: working on his coloring and "writing" (using a crayon to make lines and trace shapes, things like that), napping without a pull up, taking off his own clothes (not always at appropriate times!), taking off shoes and socks, talking up a storm, playing creatively on his own, playing and interacting with other kids, to name a few things.
Some of his favorite foods are mac & cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, apples, applesauce, strawberries, chicken, fries, and sweets of all kinds. He drinks mostly milk and water but has the occasional juice.
He is still a great sleeper! He goes to be around 8 PM and sleeps until 7 AM. He sometimes has trouble going to sleep and we have to put him back in bed several times, but once he goes to sleep, he's usually good until the morning. He still takes one nap a day for about 3 hours, usually from 1 PM until 4 PM.
Cole loves playing with cars, airplanes, trucks, Legos, train tracks, playing outside, taking walks, and playing at the park. Some of his favorite shows/movies are Planes, Cars, Finding Nemo, Octonauts, and Sheriff Callie's Wild West. Some of his favorite books are the Piggie & Elephant series from the library, stories from the "Big McQueen Book", and many others! We have a ton of books, so he gets on a kick with one book and we'll read it a ton, and then he'll do the same to another book.
Just in the past few months, he's started to seem so much older, and not as dependent on us for everything. He wants to do a lot of things himself and tell us what to do! For as fun and entertaining as it is, it can be a little frustrating sometimes when our ideas of what's going to happen don't match up. :) However, this has been one of our favorite ages so far! He's still sweet and loving and thinks we're "the best or sweetest mom/dad ever" and has so much personality and excitement about everything!
Happy Birthday Cole Man!! We love you and are so excited to see you grow and learn new things every day!

Cole's 3rd Birthday Party

We celebrated Cole's birthday with a PLANES/ice cream sundae party on March 15th. We decided to do the weekend before his birthday since my parents would be able to make it, before they went to Stacy's next few golf tournaments. I really wanted to do the ice cream sundae theme, and the PLANES stuff got added on because Tony didn't think Cole would really care about a bunch of ice cream decorations. :) He was probably right with that one!

We had our kitchen table set up with food and the ice cream toppings for later. We had hummus with veggies and pita chips, fruit skewers, and chips with salsa and queso.

We got Cole's cake from Reasor's (a local grocery store), and I made the ice cream and happy birthday banners out of scrapbook papers.

Cate hung out with Nina and Pop Pop a lot during the party. She also slept in her swing for a little while.

First, everyone had some snacks. While the adults were still eating, the boys went off and played. Cole kept closing the doors to the office and his room when they were in there playing...stay out Mom and Dad, I'm with my friends. :)

Then, we got them all together to play a round of PLANES Bingo. I just got pictures of a bunch of characters online, and made little Bingo cards. I was impressed that they all played and had fun with it!

Cole was begging to open his presents, so we did that next. All the boys wanted to help out and couldn't wait to see what he got that they could all play with!

Next up was cake! We all sang "Happy Birthday" while Cole looked around with the straightest face. It was too cute! Then when everyone was done, he goes "Thank you!!". When someone would tell him "Happy Birthday", we would say it right back to them too. :)
He did a great job blowing out his own candles this at a time!

Everyone had some cake and their ice cream sundae's. Cole had no trouble with his chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream with chocolate sprinkles!
We saved the best activity for last! We bought a Dusty piñata and filled it with suckers, flavored Tootsie Rolls, little rubber ducks, and bouncy balls.
It was a pull string piñata, so each kid grabbed a string and pulled until the bottom popped open!
The sucker stems kind of blocked up the hole at the bottoms, so Tony had to help it out a little bit. For a second, they all just stood there watching everything come out. I think some of them were screaming and jumping with excitement before they realized they got to pick up whatever they wanted!

Cole ended up with 6 of the 8 rubber ducks and a bunch of suckers. The boy knew what he wanted!
All the boys had a little more time to play together before it was time for everyone to go. We found them all in Cole's room with a bunch of sucker wrappers in the trash!
After all his friends left, Cole wanted to try out his new scooter from Nina and Pop Pop! He loves putting on his helmet, and he did pretty good for his first time on there. It was easier going up our street than down it since its a pretty good incline, so Tony helped him out a little bit too.

Once he gets comfortable on there, I'm sure he's going to be buzzing all round the neighborhood and riding it to the park.

This was such a fun birthday party! It's really neat to see Cole actually playing and interacting with other kids at this age. His last party, he was young enough where they all just played alongside or around each other. He was genuinely excited about his party and seeing his friends. He even woke up early from his nap, and said "Are my friends here yet?" and waited by the front window for them to get to our house. We all had a great time, really, and appreciated everyone coming to celebrate with us!

Cate - 2 Months

Cate turned 2 months old on Tuesday, which happened to be Cole's birthday too. It was a big day for everyone! We haven't gone back for her 2 month check up yet, so I will have to update this with her stats next week after we go. She's just a growing girl though! Update: at 9 weeks, 6 days Cate is 24 inches long and weighs 13 pounds 4.5 ounces. Both are the 92nd percentile. He head circumference is 40.1 cm, 74th percentile.
She is wearing 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers (probably the last order of those). She's eating 6 or 7 times per day. She's definitely dropped one of the night feedings and will occasionally only wake up once to eat.
Sleeping has been a little bit of a challenge at this point. She's doing well at night, getting up once or twice and then going back to sleep pretty easily. She wakes up for the day between 7 and 8:30 depending on if she wakes for a second night/early morning feeding or not. Naps are another story right now. We are having trouble staying in a tight swaddle and she's working her arms out and getting herself all worked up. She tends to nap well in the morning, but then naps get shorter and shorter as the day goes on and she has trouble staying asleep more than 45 minutes or so. We've been trying short sessions of crying it out (10 minutes or so), and she's fallen back asleep at times. So it's just a work in progress right now. With her short naps, she and Cole don't have an overlapping nap right now, except maybe 30 minutes. It's making for a busy day, but I know it won't be like this forever.
Cate has become much more alert and aware the past few weeks. You can definitely tell what she's looking at and when she notices us. She's started making little talking noises, and she's holding her head really well. She likes sitting in her rocker chair and looking around on her play mat. We catch her watching Cole running back and forth or zooming his cars or airplanes around. When we eat dinner, she wants to sit on someone's lap and watch what's going on. She also loves taking a bath. That's a guaranteed calm, relaxing time for her. Cate has started to relax and like being read to before bed and naps, as long as it's a short one!
Of course, Cole has to get in on the picture taking. He loves his little sis!

Our favorite milestone of the past month is the SMILE! She has a cute one and we love getting her to smile as much as we can!

Here's Cole at 2 months for comparison. :) Cole had started losing his hair at this point!

Happy 3rd Birthday Cole!

Today our little man turns 3! We can't believe he's getting so big and grown up! We wanted to spend the day doing things Cole loves to do, so we started off with cinnamon rolls for breakfast, which he usually loves...but didn't want to eat today. Go figure! I think he was just too excited to play with all his new toys from his birthday party.
After breakfast, he opened his presents from us. We like to think his main present is the party, so we got him two new planes, some new Crocs for the summer, a Planes puzzle, and two games.
Next up was preschool bounce time at Bounce U, where they have a bunch of inflatables and the kids just run around crazy. He loves going there, and we don't do it very often. Tony took off work today to spend time with Cole, and Janet and David met us at Bounce U.
First stop was the slide and some "jet packing" (aka running around with his arms back).
Cate hung out and slept the whole time amongst all the screaming and music in there.
Cole Man bounced on these little cows.
He loved going through the obstacle course...
And shooting balls at the targets.
Then we left Bounce U to get some lunch at Cole's choice, Chick-fil-a. He even got to play on the playground for a little bit.
He was one tired man after all that! We are planning on just having a low key dinner at home tonight and a few cupcakes from one of our favorite places, Not Your Grandma's Cupcakes. Cole goes for his 3 year check up next week, so I'll wait and do his other update then. Happy Birthday Cole!!!
