Happy Camper

Last week was pretty busy even though Beth was gone for a good portion of it. She left for “camp” last Tuesday and was gone until Friday when I picked her up. Okay, she wasn’t actually at camp, but she was at Dry Gulch USA, which is a camp where Jenks takes its 6th graders every year to do some teaching outside of the classroom. I’m sure Beth will write more about it soon, but overall I think she had fun.

Some Pics of Dry Gulch USA

My parents were in town last week so while Beth was gone, I got to spend some time with them. They have been planning on buying a house in Tulsa for a while since my brother and sister go to college here so I got a chance to go look at a bunch of properties with them. After looking at many many houses, they found one that they really liked and decided to buy. It’s a great house that was built in the 1920s with a lot of character. In the middle of looking at houses, my Dad and I got a chance to play golf out at Forest Ridge golf course near our house. We had a good time together and I look forward to hopefully doing it again sometime soon.

Last Saturday Beth and I spent a majority of the day working in our flower beds. We pulled everything out and have decided to start from scratch. Because it took us so long to pull everything out, we decided to do all of our planting this upcoming weekend. I never was too impressed with the landscaping at our house so I’m looking forward to making it look how we want it to.

On Sunday, we had lunch with a college friend of mine who was in town from Dallas. We went to a new place in Tulsa called Smashburger. There’s actually two of them in town now, one on 71st and Garnett(the one we went to) and one on 71st and Highway 75. I love a good burger and this place has really good burgers. Beth got a chicken sandwich that she said was good too. It's one of those places where you order at the counter and they bring you your food. If you’re in Tulsa, definitely check it out.

After lunch we stopped by Mathis Brothers just to browse the furniture since we are looking for office furniture. In fact, I don’t even like Mathis Brothers but their selections and prices are too good to pass up. If I had another option, I would take it! As we were walking through the store, we both spotted these great leather chairs. After sitting in them and looking at the price(and a little back and forth conversation between the two of us), we decided to make the purchase. We set up the chairs last night and also added a few small speakers and tv to the office. We are planning on getting a combination bookshelf/media center but are going to hold off on that for a little while.

This is a picture of one of our new chairs:

After lunch, buying furniture, and relaxing a little bit, we decided to take a 7 mile run on Sunday night. It felt really good to run a little longer and the Oklahoma weather has been great lately. We are gearing up for a few different runs in the next month. We are running in the Woolaroc Run(8K) on October 17th and the Tulsa Run(15K) on October 31st. We ran in the Tulsa run last year and it was a great race. We are both looking forward to doing it again this year. I’ve heard the Woolaroc Run is a lot of fun too, but have never gotten a chance to run in it.

Anyway, that's a little run down of the past week. We've been slacking on the blog a little lately, but hopefully we can get into a better routine.

Busy Saturday

Yesterday, we got to use our season tickets for the first time and went to the OU vs. Tulsa (TU) game in Norman. The game was at 2:30 so we left our house around 9:15 and made the drive over to Norman. It takes about 2 hours to get there. We left our house and it was cool, partly sunny, really nice outside. As we got closer to Oklahoma City we ran into some major rain! We had no clue that it was supposed to rain. Not prepared with rain gear! We stopped and got some lunch and made our way to Norman where it continued to rain, but not as much as we had see closer to Oklahoma City. About 1 1/2 hours before the game, the rain stopped and it got pretty hot. Again, not prepared for it to be so hot! We experience all kinds of weather yesterday, that's for sure. Before the game, we got to meet up with Tony's parents. They are in the US from Saudi Arabia for a little bit and are in Tulsa to see Tony's brother & sister who go to TU. Kelsey, his sister, plays in the TU band. We went to the game and watched OU dominate. I know Tony had a great time. :) I do my best to do a little cheering, but not too much. It is OU! After the game, we made our way back to Tulsa and met up with Tony's parents, Sean, and Kelsey for a late dinner. We were TIRED by the time we made it home around 11 pm. It was a busy day, but all fun stuff (except from driving back and forth).

Dallas and Canton Pictures

Here are some pictures from our trip to Dallas for the OU vs. BYU game. The Sunday after the game we went to Canton, TX for Trade Days. There's only a few picture from that, but we had to make sure we got a picture of my Dad and Tony there because we might not get them to go back! Unless it's to buy a puppy!

Highlights from the past 2 weeks

Well, once again, it's been awhile since we've posted on our blog. Here's what we've been up to.

1. Last Saturday, drove to Dallas for the OU/BYU game. Disappointing outcome for my honey's team, but it was a fun little trip. Not too far of a drive from Tulsa.

2. Sunday met my parents in Canton, TX for the Market Days shopping extravaganza. Huge flea market and different vendors set up shop for the weekend to sell everything you can possibly think off. Very hot weather, but a fun time. Couldn't believe my mom and I managed to get Tony and my dad to an all day shopping trip.

3. No work on Monday! Recovered from our trip and got ready for the work week. Even though it was only 3 days of work!

4. Mom came to Tulsa Wednesday night. Picked her up at the airport and got some dinner. Thursday she came and had lunch with me over at Kaffe Bona (great cafe in Jenks right by school). She also came and saw my classroom.

5. Thursday after work, mom, Tony and I drove to Fayetteville for the NW Arkansas LPGA tournament. Also, met up with dad and Janet flew in that night. We stayed with the Callahan family who lives right by the clubhouse of the course where the tournament was played (Pinnacle).

6. Watched Stac play golf Friday, Saturday, and today (Sunday). Did a little bit of eating and shopping...make that a lot of eating! Haha. They have a great set up for players and families at the clubhouse where they provide 3 meals a day if you want to eat there. Also, Mrs. Callahan makes some great food when we wanted to eat there. We had great weather...warm & sunny Friday, warm & cloudy Saturday, but cool today. They were expecting major rain, but it only rained for a few holes today and it was pretty light rain considering.

7. We also go to see Stacy's house that she's going to be closing on on Friday this week. It's our 3rd time to see it, but my mom and Janet has not been there yet. All of the former owner's stuff was moved out this time. Can't wait to help Stacy pick out furniture and whatever else she wants help with!

8. Got to meet the former CEO of Wal-Mart, Lee Scott. He was just hanging out with his wife at the Callahan's house. Tony had a moment. Have to say it was pretty cool to meet someone that was in charge of the largest company in the world. He retired in February of this year.

9. Decided that we are going to have the Lewis family Thanksgiving at our house in Tulsa this year! Will be going to Houston for Christmas though.

We will post some pictures from this weekend soon. We have a normal week this week and an OU football game to go to next weekend. That's about it from here for now!

Are You Ready for Some Football?

Heck yeah! We are definitely ready for some football. At least I am. Beth and I were fortunate enough to get OU/BYU tickets for OU's season opener in Dallas this weekend. We are going to hang around here on Friday night and then get up on Saturday morning and head to Dallas. Before the game we'll probably just do a little tailgating before heading in and checking out the new stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m. and we are spending the night in Dallas on Saturday night.

On Sunday we are getting up and driving to Canton, TX, home of Canton Trade Days. I've been told by Beth and her Mom that it is kind of like a giant flea market with better stuff. It's only held one weekend a month and people come from all over for it. I'm a little curious as to what it's going to be like and interested to see what kind of small town Texas people come out for it. We'll keep you posted.
