Hidden Gems

I went running today at lunch because I knew I wouldn't have time after work since Beth and I were going up to The Woodlands. Because of the fact that it is now the middle of July in Houston and officially hot outside, I decided to do a majority of my run inside the Glenwood Cemetery just down the street from our apartment. Some people in Houston have heard of Glenwood Cemetery but it seems like even more haven't. And I've got to be honest, it's actually a pretty cool place and beautiful on the inside. Come to find out, there are many well-known people buried there as well. These people include Howard Hughes(the aviator), William P. Hobby, Anson Jones(the last president of the Republic of Texas), and the list goes on. Anyway, Beth and I have gone running there a few times and it provides a great relief from the sun on a hot day as the entire cemetery is filled with huge trees. I like to consider it a quiet oasis in the middle of Houston and a great place full of historical figures who have helped shape Texas and even the World. Although it's a cemetery and sometimes they tend to bring sadness upon people, I always smile every time I'm there thinking about the thousands of stories that could be shared by the many people buried there. If you're ever down near downtown Houston and have a little extra time, check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed.
